WE NEED ONE KIDNEY

Donation protected
http://needonekidney.com We never imagined we'd be writing a letter as difficult as this one today.

We ask only for your understanding and from the bottom of our hearts we truly appreciate any support or leads you may offer. Your prayers and kindness mean the world to us as our dear Stuart faces the largest challenge of his young life.

As you all know, Stuart is a shy, quiet and private person and asking for help does not come easily for him. He is a husband, father, son, brother and friend. Stuart was just beginning his life as a teacher; was recently married to the woman of his dreams and they recently welcomed their first son into the world this past Spring. Life seemed to be going as planned with a bright future ahead. But everything changed quickly when Stuart suddenly became ill and was diagnosed with kidney failure and rapidly lost his eyesight.

We found ourselves in shock as Stuart has always been healthy and taken extremely good care of himself. The doctors cannot explain what happened. The neuro-ophthalmologist suspects that he may have LHON, Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy but there is no cure or treatment for this condition.

Our plan was to have someone within our family donate a kidney as you only need one kidney to live a long healthy life and we would do anything to help save Stuart. But we were devastated to learn that none of us are suitable donors. His amazing doctors have exhausted all treatment options and have placed him on the deceased kidney registry, which averages a five year wait time. We welcome any and all suggestions and ask only for your ideas and support to help save Stuart.

On August 2 Stuart will be facing surgery to implant a fistula into his arm so that he can receive dialysis three times a week. This treatment does not give Stuart a life as dialysis takes four hours a day and would require him, his wife and baby to travel to the treatment center three times a week.

The doctors have now encouraged us to try to find a living donor on our own. It is difficult to express in words how thankful we will be for any and all help and would not take any of it for granted. We are praying for a miracle here and hoping for a story of triumph in the face of tragedy.

A suitable donor would need to be in good health with blood type A or O or if we find a someone willing to be a donor but does not match the blood type we can join the paired exchange program where we work with other incompatible pairs. There is an extensive screening process and support provided for the donor. Stuart’s insurance will cover the cost of the entire procedure for the donor. It is illegal for us to pay someone to donate their kidney but we are raising funds to help the donor offset the cost of travel, lodging and lost wages.

We have built this website in an effort to:

1.    Raise awareness;

2.    Find Stuart a donor;

3.    Create a social network of support for Stuart and his family;

4.    Connect and help others in need;

5.    Build resources and raise funds to help offset the donor’s expenses.

We wish to extend our deepest gratitude for your ongoing concern, love and support. If we put our collective ideas and resources towards this monumental task of saving Stuart’s precious life, we hope we will succeed! God Bless!
