<div>On Thursday, February 19, our family lost everything we once called home due to the devastating heavy rains in Arequipa, Peru. A powerful torrent of water mixed with rocks and mud entered our house, flooding it completely and destroying all that we had built over the years.

<div>Today, we are facing the painful reality of starting over from nothing—without a safe place to live—while the rains are expected to continue due to the effects of El Niño.
</div>
