Hello,
My name is Jerry Lauersdorf and I am from Houston, TX. I am Debbie Lauersdorf's son.
Less than a week after losing her mother, my mom has also lost her home.
For my mom, surviving Hurricane Harvey began late Sunday, August 29th. Downpours moved closer to her neighborhood and began getting more water than was ever expected. She woke up in the middle of the night to a pool of water in her bedroom. With waters quickly rising, she acted quickly and called a neighbor who is in a two-story house. They came for her in a canoe and that night she slept on their second-floor hallway as they also began getting water in their home.
Early Monday morning, another boat came to rescue all those in the neighbor's home. They were taken to a truck at a gas station and then to another gas station that was deemed safer. That night she was able to stay at a fellow teacher's home. Finally, Tuesday morning she was able to make it to my sister's house.
On Wednesday August 30th, she was able to go back and see the damage. I am asking for your generosity to help her get back on her feet. The costs to repair and replace things will mostly be out of pocket because she does not have flood insurance since her house is an area that is not listed as a flood hazard area--her house has not flooded in the past. But as you know, Harvey broke records and brought devastation to many who do not have the proper insurance.
With your help, we will help not just help my mom, but a daughter, sister, friend, neighbor and educator. Please consider giving to support her in this marathon she is embarking upon. Any amount is gratefully accepted and appreciated.
She is unaware that I have planned this fundraiser, but as we are now getting financial estimates on the amount of damage done I know she will need more help than we can provide. Her flooring must be redone, the drywall throughout her entire house has to be replaced, most if not all of her furniture is ruined, and there will have to be a lot exterior work done as well. We are expecting a fair amount of expenses that are unknown at this time as we continue to work on the house.
