In Memory of Andres Pastrana

The Day School's longtime custodian Andres Pastrana succumbed to complications from the COVID-19 virus and died yesterday afternoon after a weeklong struggle.  Andres has been with The Day School since its inception, always willing to lend a hand, fix or hang anything that needed his steady hands and keep the school running smoothly. But he was more than just a custodian; he was a member of our Day School family and was known to the children as Mr. Andres.  We know we all looked forward to seeing him each morning as he opened up the building and got it ready for the day.  He often joked with the staff and asked after our families.  We often poked fun at his preference for cold weather and unwillingness to wear a hat or warmer winter jacket when it was frigid outside.  He was often seen standing by the school's front door smiling at the children as they arrived, exchanging a hello with a parent or having a fun conversation with a caregiver in Spanish. Unknown to most, Andres worked multiple jobs, which was a testament to his strong work ethic. His warm heart and dedication to the school and all the families who have passed through will always be remembered. He will be deeply missed!

 
As we are thinking about Andres's passing, we are also thinking about the family he has left behind.  One of Andres's sons, Danny Ruiz, is the sexton of the church and is also a big part of our Day School community.   Andres's wife, Florencia Azucena Ruiz, has helped us with larger school events. 

As a school, we wanted to reach out and offer some support during this terrible time for the family by having a Go Fund Me Page where families can leave messages and make a donation if they wish.  The donations will go towards hospital bills and funeral expenses.
