Wayne Weaver Celebration of Life

Hi my name is Adele, and I'm raising funds for The Wayne Weaver Foundation Limited, on Behalf of Wayne Weaver, to assist in easing the burden of Wayne's Funeral costs. I'd like to share my story with you, of how I met Wayne and the profound impact he's had, on not just mine but literally hundreds of other homeless kids lives.

The first time I met Wayne, it must've been about 25 years ago by now... I was this scrawny grubby little 13 or 14 year old kid, fresh on the streets, with no clue where to go, or how I would keep myself safe.... Brisbane Youth Service was doing their annual Christmas spread at the Church hall across the road.... I was so tired I didn't even eat, I passed out in a beanbag in the drop-in under the fan and slept all day...

As they were closing up, Wayne leans down and shakes me awake, so I open my eyes to his ponytail in my face, and this upside down scary looking bloke with heavy jewellery and a sparkle in his eyes, grinning ear to ear, telling me that I slept through it all, and it was time to go....

Youth workers came and went, but Wayne was always there with a kind word and a pat on the shoulder when you needed him. He even took me to my mums funeral.

From the very beginning, Wayne showed a deep kindness, compassion and empathy for every single man woman and child that walked through the door, treating everyone with dignity, no matter what was going on. He was more than just a youth worker. He was the father that I never had, a confidant, teacher, our biggest supporter and ally, life coach and most of all, a wonderful friend. He was always quick with a smile and a kind word, no matter how rushed off his feet he was. He always had time for a cuppa, just to check in, and he was this way with EVERYONE.

He equally made the time for everyone and just being in his presence could give you this weird sense of calm, even when it felt like the world around you was crumbling, he brought order in the chaos. Feeling a comforting pat on the shoulder, a celebratory pat on the back, a crisp high five or a warm handshake or hug from Wayne, along with hearing him laugh, was like being welcomed home - no matter how long it had been.

If you've made it this far, this man is, in fact, a hero. He has saved more lives than I can count, including mine. It's time we give back to a man who gave us everything.

Thank you for listening. Your help is much appreciated. Wayne happened to accidentally cancel the wrong insurance policy while getting his affairs in order, which is why he needs our help now. It's Wayne's turn.

He deserves to have a send off befitting his status in the community, he made such an effort for each and every man woman and child that needed help. It is the LEAST we can do to give back now, when he needs us most, especially because he can't argue the point or deflect the attention elsewhere, in his true style lol.

Please help us celebrate his life, dig deep ❤️
