Wayne Bush Support

Wayne was diagnoised with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on June 22, 2017. Immediately after, he went through a seven day low dose Chemotherapy treatment. The doctor decided on the low dose because of the risk of bleeding. It is important to note that he had been diagnosed with two hematomas in his head the week before. A couple of days after the last treatment, he came down with a fever and was admitted to Roswell Cancer Institute. He has been there ever since. It was discovered that the leukemia did not respond to the low-dose of chemo. So he was immediately put on stronger chemo drugs. He has been battling with the side affects of the chemo, leukemia and hemotomas all at the same time. On July 24th, we received the amazing news that there were no more Leukemia cells in the bone marrow. Meaning, that once Wayne’s blood counts came back up, he would be able to have a bone marrow transplant. A few immediate family members were tested but so far none are an exact match. We are still waiting one family member’s results. Without a bone marrow match, he will likely need more chemo in a few weeks to keep the leukemia at bay until a match can be found.

On July 26th, Wayne started having trouble breathing. By the next day, the doctors found fluid around his lungs and heart, he became pale and blue tinted. He was put on oxygen and given meds to reduce the fluid. We worry that another round of chemo will not be tolerated by his weakened heart. Everyday comes with new challenges.

While Wayne is battling AML, Joann is trying to keep the business open and running. She is working all day, visiting all evening and trying to run the household all the while. This has been a stressful time for everyone involved. As you could imagine, expenses are climbing. Gas, parking, a quick snack between work and the hospital, it all adds up quickly, not to mention medical expenses and normal costs as well.

I have created this GoFundMe because friends and family have inquired about how to help during this difficult time. If you feel so inclined, any donation would be an amazing gift but certainly not expected. Another way to help would be to check out BeTheMatch.org. This amazing organization tests for bone marrow matches. Even if you are not a match for Wayne, maybe there is someone in the world who needs you as much as the Bush Family needs a match. What a wonderful way to save a life.
