Watson’s Christmas Tree - Give The Dog A Bone!

In April this year whilst on holiday in Kalkan, Turkey we were ‘adopted’ on the first night by a lonely street dog, of which there are many, who in our slightly inebriated state we named Watson.

Our paths crossed many times that week, his ‘street’ name was Hector, a bit of a local celebrity, and at the end of our time in Kalkan after an emotional departure, worthy of any movie storyboard... dog standing in the middle of the road watching as the car drives off heading out of town... we returned home with a decision to be made.

It was a decision that had really already been made on that first night and so the long journey began to bring Watson home.

With help from some fantastic people, including KAPSA, Watson finally arrived in the UK on the 3rd of October ready to start a new life with a new family, and as the new ‘pub dog’ at The George.

He has settled in amazingly so far... he’s had a warm welcome from all the villagers and regulars he’s met, making some new friends and acclimatising to the cold wet wintry weather!

So this is Watson’s first Christmas with us and we wanted to do something to thank KAPSA for looking out for him whilst living on the streets and also for his street mates who he left behind.

The Kalkan Association for the Protection of Street Animals care for the health and well-being of street animals, dogs and cats, in Kalkan through a trap, neuter and return programme and providing veterinary treatment for sick and injured animals. They also run a winter feeding programme for the animals, when the tourist season ends and the shops and restaurants close.

As part of that winter feeding programme we’d like to help the volunteers of KAPSA raise enough money to at least give all the animals a Christmas dinner on Christmas Day...

Our Christmas Tree here at The George is up, Watson has claimed it and we’re selling ‘Dog Bones’ to decorate it. The decorations can have your name, your dog or cats name, or a welcome message for Watson put on them...
