Life Saving Water for the Maasai

As the drought continues in northern Kenya, a small community of Maasai people in Kajiado county reached out to me for help.  They have been struggling for over two years, watching their cattle die, and barely getting by. The people are hungry. Where there is no water, there is no life.

For the Maasai people, their livelihood almost exclusively depends on animal stock, primarily cattle and goats, from which they get their meat, milk, and material to build huts. In fact, their entire culture revolves around cattle.  Now imagine that a Maasai family has 290 cows only to watch that number shrink down to 100 then 30 and then zero in the span of a year or two.

                                         Dead Cattle

This is what they are forced to feed the remaining cattle.

For this reason, John Kisarmoi, a member of the Maasai community and a student of Biblical Studies at Andrew Cornal School of Preaching in Tanzania, contacted me for help. I have been friends with John on Facebook for a few months prior to his asking me for help. The reason he reached out to me is because of my genuine passion for philanthropy when it comes to Africa. I have teamed up with Hailey Granlund to help get this project started.

The Situation is Desperate.

In order to bring life back to this Maasai community of about 300 people, they need water.  We are raising $1,500 to pay for a Dealogoical Survey by the company Balena to determine if there is water underground for a well.

The situation is urgent and we a pressed to raise the money within a month. Won't you help? Watch the videos below to learn more about the situation facing Kenya.

Water is something that we so often take for granted and, unfortunately, this essential part of life isn’t so easily accessible for everyone. This lack of water is inhibiting their ability to provide for their livestock and, ultimately, their people. Something as simple as a $5, $10 or $25 donation can bring them one step closer to hope and peace of mind in a very difficult time.

There will be a few phases for fundraising and this is our first phase. We need to first survey the land to determine if there is water underground to support a well. We’re asking members of our community and the world at large to donate what you can so that we can get this process off the ground and moving as quickly as possible. Our goal is to raise $1,500 by the end of January. With all of the love and support in this community, I’m sure we will reach this goal.

Here is the breakdown:
300 people donate just $5
OR 150 people donate $10
OR 60 people donate $25

Once the money has been raised, we will Western Union it to John who can then pay Balena.

Don’t forget to SHARE this post! ❤️

So much love and appreciation for you all!

P.S. Bringing water to the Maasai people in northern Kenya also opens the door for the gospel to be shared among them. Help us bring this community back to life!

P.S.S.  This project doesn't end with a well. In fact, we plan to assess and offer the community a sustainable plan for the future.
