Everyday 1,000 kids under the age of 5 die from contaminated water in Ghana.
In October 2019, I will be traveling to Ghana to participate in a volunteer service project with Lifetime Wells International (LWI) . This project will deliver water for the first time to 10,000 people in Northern Ghana's Bunkpurugu village.
LWI is a volunteer nonprofit based in Pennsylvania providing sustainable water infrastructure in Ghana and Tanzania since 2004. To date, LWI has drilled over 2,000 wells in Africa.
LWI partnered with a Villanova University senior civil/structural design team in 2017 to design, build, and finance a hand well in Najong II, Ghana. LWI is continuing its partnership with Villanova and returning to mechanize the well. The estimated cost to complete this project is $18,000 plus volunteer travel.
The new water system will provide clean, sustainable water to 10,000 people from its current capacity of just 300. Quality infrastructure like this is essential to a community to achieve social, economic and political goals.
So why am I doing this? Because we all have the opportunity to leave a legacy in our lives that extends beyond our family, friends and job title. It's the things we do for other people and the impact we have on complete strangers that endures and leaves a lasting legacy. I want this project to leave a legacy; creating a ripple effect so that others may have the opportunity to leave their own.

Present state - the hand pump, servicing just 300 people daily with clean water.

What the final project will deliver - a mechanized system with daily capacity to deliver clean water to all 10,000 villagers.
