WA State Fiddle Contest

The Washington State Fiddle Championships will be held on August 4th & 5, 2018. This will be the second year for the event at the Clark County Fair which is celebrating their 150th year. The contest is held on the Columbian Stage and last year the Columbian did a great job of promoting the contest. We had articles and pictures of the contest prominent in the Columbian on three days. The contest was also covered on local TV morning segments. In addition, top sponsors receive prominent publicity at the fair which draws over 260,000 attendees.
In 2017 we had a budget of over $14,000 and drew contestants from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California, Texas, and Minnesota. We featured over 50 contestants and many local youth participated in their first Fiddle Contest.
Following on our successful first year we are determined to grow and to draw top fiddlers from across the country providing a fun opportunity for regional families and developing fiddlers to see national champion quality fiddling and to compete with the highest caliber fiddlers in their own age divisions. To have a top contest we need to:
*Bring in top judges with name recognition in the community;
*Offer prize money sufficient to draw National Champion caliber fiddlers;
*Trophies and other non-cash prizes
*Provide staff guitarists to ensure that all fiddlers & divisions have quality accompanists
*Create an inviting and fun atmosphere for the crowds and the musicians.
Accomplishing all of this will require funding for travel, hotels and stipends for Judges and Guitarists, and of course cash for prizes. We also need to cover incidental expenses, decorations for the stage, and any “swag” trinkets and giveaways for the crowd or the contestants. We hope to offer T-Shirts and/or hats to the contestants and for sale to the public. Reaching a point where we can offer T-Shirts and hats to all contestants is important for branding and promoting the contest and for our sponsors but we must meet basic budget for prize money and travel expenses first.
