Our friend, mentor, and amazing yoga teacher has had a rough start to 2019.  In her life she has continued to work diligently and passionately towards her dreams, yet has had to deal with major illnesses and operations that continue to try to stop her, but have also proven that she is a walking miracle every day.  She is a two time cancer survivor, animal advocate, and is generous with everyone and every animal on a day to day basis.  Today, we’d like to show her the same generosity she constantly gives out, and help her through this next difficult hurdle that has been thrown at her.  Following the death of her kitten, they have discovered the return of a tumor in Kristi’s brain, and she is going through radiation to hopefully avoid a second brain surgery.

Her kitten Maisel:  4 months ago Kristi rescued 5 kittens from deathrow at a kill shelter outside of Austin.  She brought them home, raised 4 of them to an adoptable age and adopted them out, and the 5th kitten, who was 3 weeks old and had numerous health issues, Kristi named Maisel and nursed back to health and bonded so strongly that she decided to keep her.  Unfortunately, 2019 has come in like a hurricane and Maisel, at 3.5 months old, took a turn for the worse and despite attempts at medical intervention to keep this kitten alive, Maisel was diagnosed with a fatal virus and didn't make it.  This left a hole in Kristi's heart, as well as a pile of vet bills.  All animal lovers know the void that a well loved pet, especially one that you personally hand raised, leaves in your heart.  And if you don't know what that is like, know that psychologists compare it to the loss of a close friend or loved one.  The pain is real.

If that wasn't enough, a tumor has re-occurred in Kristi's brain, and she is undergoing radiation to try and reduce the size of the tumor, and hopefully avoid surgery.  If surgery is needed, it'll be the second time in Kristi's life, that she will be have to undergo this intensive, painful surgery with a long recovery.  Kristi is a 2 time cancer survivor thyroid into lymph system.  The radiation directed at her thyroid caused degeneration of her cervical spine, and she had to have triple cervical artificial disc replacement in 2009.  She also survived the West Nile virus which weakened her lungs, and she ended up with double pneumonia and spent weeks in the ICU.  After all of this she went back to school to study holistic nutrition to help others, but then found out she had a brain tumor.  She had surgery 6 years ago for the tumor, and it has returned today.

We can’t express enough the light Kristi brings into a room. She is constantly giving, whether it’s advice, help, encouragement, or service, and she stays upbeat and positive despite all that life has thrown at her.  Her goals are to share yoga and health, complete her masters, and encourage everyone to stay positive, embrace life and heal.  Throughout her entire adult life she has had to deal with cancer, or the after affects of cancer, and while it has created numerous delays and setbacks, she gets right back up, lives in the present, and moves forward.  We’d like to make this time, less of a set back, help her pay off her medical bills and the bills from the kittens she rescued, and feel supported when she constantly supports all of us.
