Warrior Princess Aminah

Aminah was first diagnosed with Bilateral Wilms Tumor (kidney cancer) 11/1/15. She had chemotherapy followed by surgery radiation and more chemotherapy. We had to follow up every 3 months for 2 years. At that point they allowed us to come every six months. When we came 1/23/19 her ultrasound showed a renal mass on her right kidney. We begin chemotherapy again and Aminah had another surgery on 9/16/19. The surgeons planned to dissect the tumor out and put her kidney back however they could not completely dissect the tumor and since it had grown into the urinary collection system the team decided that it was in Aminah’s best interest to remove her right kidney and place a peritoneal dialysis catheter in her abdomen. She was in ICU for a couple of days and them moved to the transplant floor where she started hemodialysis. For about 2 weeks Aminah had several hemodialysis treatments while her peritoneal dialysis catheter healed. They were able to start using the pd catheter and are working towards the correct prescription so that we can complete cycle one of of four of chemotherapy.y  once chemotherapy ends it will be at least one year before she is eligible for a kidney transplant. My Warrior Princess is in good spirits and she understands that our lives are very different now.  I am my family’s sole provider. While Aminah is in the hospital in Chicago I have not worked.
