Wangari Giving Circle

Donation protected
I started the Wangari CSA to get my garden neighbors in on some high-quality, local produce and to help small farmers thrive during this unusual time. Within the CSA, we have established the Wangari Giving Circle, where people are able to add any additional dollar amount to their weekly share, and the funds collected help cover the cost of produce boxes that we share with neighbors in need.

Since April, I've had the privilege of getting to know the recipients of our Giving Circle produce boxes each week, and I'd like to share a few stories.

One neighbor and his family cared for a whole bunch of beans they planted in our public gardens, and they helped us translate and create signage so our other Spanish-speaking neighbors know what's growing in that space.

Another neighbor lives across the street and when I asked how long he's been on the block he said, "You don't even want to know." His daughter loves the eggs.

One other recipient brings her children with her to the pick-up where they harvest lettuces from the public garden to make fresh salads at home.

Parts of the community surrounding our garden face healthcare challenges, including childhood obesity and heart disease, due to limited access to fresh vegetables. The pandemic certainly hasn't made anything easier. I hope to continue feeding our community, and supporting our local farmers, as long as both need the help. If you are able to give to our circle, every bit counts, so thank you for your contribution.
