Our delightful friend Walter Murphy is suffering some difficult times. He sadly has a terminal illness and has been given a short time to live.
He has spent the last month in the hospital, part of it was in ICU. Walter was released yesterday and approved to receive 'outside hospice care'. They will visit him 3 times a week and more towards his final days.
Walter has no able family to care for him and as of a few months ago, no permanent address either-very disheartening. Which means he doesn't have an address to show in order to recieve the approved hospice care.
But if we were to set Walter up in an extended stay hotel (which is what we did yesterday) now the care takers do have an address to visit and care for him. This is crucial for the comfort of Walter's last days on earth.
His close friends will continue to check in on him and stay in touch with the Hospice providers that he has, in order to see that Walter recieves what he needs. We want to make Walter's last weeks or months as comfortable for him as possible.
Here is what Walter needs but would never ask for-keeping a roof over his head. As previosuly mentioned, without an address he won't recieve the meds and care that Hospice wants to provide Walter in his final days.
Any money collected here will be used to pay directly for Walter's continued stay at the Extended Stay Hotel so he can be checked up on by professionals.
In the event that something happens to Walter sooner rather than later we will donate any funds left here to The Atlanta Food Bank. In which is a wonderful charity that Walter loved and felt proud of.
Walter is a very giving human and always had a joke or a compliment to give. He worked very hard throughout his life in the restaurant family and loved it and was good at it. I know at some point in all our friendships with Walter that he has done something special for each one of us- because that's who he was. He still is a loyal and good friend.
I do wish we could have chosen a different path for our friend Walter but whats done is done-only time for love now. Our main concern now is to provide Walter with shelter and support through this final stage, as we say goodbye to the Walter we once all knew, enjoyed and loved.
