Walk of the Dandelion

Donation protected
Are you a Dandelion or an Orchid?

In child psychology two flower-types are assigned to characterise children's dispositions, the Orchid, sensitive and in need of nurture and The Dandelion, a resilient survivor.

"When an Orchid blossoms into a Dandelion, you have that rare person who is sensitive, strong and resilient".  T.W.Ellis

Luke Brown Dance Company plan to create 'Walk of the Dandelion' this summer - an uplifting community engagement project designed to spread joy, connect families, friends and neighbours in both outdoor and indoor settings. The essence of the project will centre around a larger-than-life Puppet named Daniel, who holds a dandelion; a symbol of resilience and hope. Daniel will move through and visit community settings such as schools/town centres/care homes/public gardens encouraging the making, receiving and passing on of handmade dandelions to help stimulate mindfulness and aiding positive recovery from a year of isolation in a post Covid world. Wherever Daniel walks, whenever you meet him, he will be there to listen and respond. After the past year, we all need reminders that we are wonderful, resilient dandelions.

Release your inner dandelion and help us raise the money to bring 'Walk of the Dandelion' to life! Daniel is the heart and soul of this project and he is the most integral element of realising this projects full potential. The kindness, love and generosity from your donations will really help us realise this dream. Your support will live inside Daniel forever and be felt by whomever meets him.

Your donations will:

- help fund the collaboration between Luke Brown Dance Company  and Naomi Oppenheim  to design and build Daniel
- purchase materials to create Daniel
- give us time to work out how Daniel moves and interacts with the public
- shine a light on dandelions as an emblem of power, survival and resilience
- bring Daniel to life to connect and spread shared joy

This project is supported by Proteus Theatre and will include the future submission of an Arts Council England application.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story.
