Walking or running to build a bridge

George (9), Betty (6), James (8) and Martha (6) have pledged to run or walk for 40 minutes every day for the week starting Monday 19th July to raise money for the charity Porridge and Pens Ghana.

They have decided to do this to try and raise money to contribute towards building a bridge to allow children to safely cross a river to get to and from school. This river crossing has to be done daily by unaccompanied children, as young as 3 years old, in order to get to school. it is always a difficult crossing but, when water levels are high it becomes downright dangerous. The plank of wood gets washed away and often the children cannot attend school. This doesn’t just mean missing out on an education, it also means missing out on 3 meals per day and often there is no food at home for the children.

the bridge is around a 20 minute walk from the school, which is why George, Betty, James and Martha have decided to walk or run for 40 minutes daily, to represent the journey. The total journey time for many of these children though is far longer, and of course far harder.

A new wooden bridge will be £1,700 or a new metal one will be £3,200. Please help us raise as much as possible. Thank you so much.
