Hello everyone,
This is Emily Crevelone (Haas) and I'm starting this page to raise funds for my mother - Leslie Haas. This is a SURPRISE for Leslie. So, if you are a friend or a client - please dont mention this page!
My mom was diagnosed with a rare degenerative muscle disorder called Inclusion-Body Myositis. IBM is an inflammatory myopathy - myopathy is a muscle disease, and inflammation is response to cell damage. In this case the muscle creates too much protein and then eats itself. It is an extremely progressive disease that will eventually debilitate her. Unless of course there is a breakthrough in research and treatment! Let's hope and pray!

The area of the body that IBM targets is the wrists and fingers, the front of the thigh muscles, and the muscles that lift the front of the foot. Leslie's biggest struggle with this disease is tripping and falling. The lack of strength in her quads and the issues with her foot muscles causes her to trip and fall. And the worst part is that she doesn't have the strength to get back up on her own.
Shes come to a point where she can no longer rely on herself to get around. Talk about a tough pill to swallow, coming from a strong, athletic and determined woman! However, Instead of surrendering herself to a wheel chair, she has asked for a pair of crutches (for Christmas).
My goal is to raise $1100.00 to pay for my mom's crutches. The brand is called Side Stix (www.sidestix.com). This is not a want, it is a need. The crutches won't take away her current state of wellness but they may be just what she needs to gain a little bit of confidence and get back to doing the things she loves the most. Hiking with her two poodles, hanging with her grandson, and spending time at the beach in the summers.
Our goal is to raise funds by Christmas. If you feel led to donate, my brother and I and the rest of our family would be extremely grateful! And I know my mom will be ecstatic and so excited to walk without the stress of falling! Thank you in advance for your generous donations.
