Walking 100 miles for The Gap (Sutton Coldfield)

It's two years in the making, with our first attempt cancelled due to Covid-19. Karen and I are now able to undertake our biggest challenge to date. It will be a real test of our physical and mental strength. The aim: To walk the 100 mile West Highland Way from Milgavie to Fort William, followed by climbing Ben Nevis (if our feet and knees allow). 

We weren't initially going to do this for charity, but realised this is a great opportunity to help out a local good cause that makes a real difference to the lives of young people, many of whom have had troubled times. The Gap works hard to help them become valued and valuable members of society. All money raised will be greatly appreciated by us, The Gap and those it helps, and it will genuinely make a real difference.

The Gap was established in 2008 with the intention of engaging with and investing in the lives of hard-to-reach, marginalised young people in Sutton Coldfield town centre and the immediate surrounding areas.

We look to step into the gap between exclusion and acceptance, between condemnation and understanding, between apathy and hope. We seek to demonstrate by what we do, that actions really do speak louder than words.

We are committed to creating and improving opportunities for the more excluded and marginalised young people from ages 12-19 by assisting them in developing their skills, capabilities and realising their full potential irrespective of their gender, circumstances or situations. Through listening, mentoring and caring we endeavour to help them grow into positive citizens as they gradually take their place in society as responsible adults.
