Walking for Fort McMurray

Donation protected
On May 9th 2016, Stanley Barkman a young man from Sachigo Lake First Nation Ontario will walk from Sioux Lookout, ON to Fort McMurray, AB to help raise awareness and funds for the devastating Fort McMurray tragedy. This journey of 2080 kilometers will take him over 6 weeks to complete. His cousin David Barkman joined him shortly thereafter and will walk the entire journey with Stanley.

My name is Angelo Petta and I live in Thunder Bay, ON. Stanley Barkman is a colleague and he asked me to help out by setting up this GoFundMe campaign and to promote and market this campaign on Facebook in order to raise as much money as possible.

A portion of the donation will be used to cover the fund raising expenses. These expenses are just limited to the out of pocket expenses they incur for food, drinks, and gas for the support vehicle following them. Many good people are offering them accommodations so we don't expect any hotel accommodation expenses plus they are also planning to camp to keep the fund raising expenses to a minimum in order to maximize the funds going to Fort McMurray.

To-date funds raised and expenses incurred will be published on a regular bases on the Walking for Fort McMurray facebook group in order to track our progress towards achieving and/or exceeding the campaign goal of $20,000.

We can do this with your help.

Here’s Stanley Barkman’s story.

This is not the first time that Stanley has walked a long journey to raise awareness and funds but he does admit that this one will be the biggest challenge.

The motivation for this initiative is “To help rebuild Fort McMurray and surrounding communities from this wildfire” says Stanley. Even though he doesn’t know anyone from Fort McMurray, Barkman commented that” No one deserves to lose their home, neighborhood or even their town from this devastating wild fire.”

Stanley is the kind of person that likes to help and he likes to act now during a time of need. He is asking everyone to help spread his message and he would like all of your support and prayers on his journey. You can also help by sharing his video Stanley's Video , join the  Facebook Group and/or hash tagging #WalkingforFortMcMurray.

He acknowledges the magnitude of this tragedy and even if he can help one or two families this journey will be worth it.

His father whom he reached out to for advise on how he can help out Fort McMurray will be joining him on his journey.

On behalf of those taking part in journey, they thank you for your donations and support in helping those affected by this tragedy.
