Wakame's Cancer Treatment

***UPDATE ***

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you all.

First and foremost, I wanted to thank everyone who showed Wakame SO MUCH love this past year. She is a survivor but she is still energetic and going strong (on most days). As of today, she remains cancer free, but rechecks and vet bills are still going strong, and getting deeper and deeper for Wakame because of them and the occasional random illnesses.

We all know what vet bills are like. They give you options, and the last option you want to take for that pet you love is to not do anything, if you can do something. Regardless of the high price, you want to find a way. You'd lose an arm to see your animal bark at you again, be a little mischievous one more time, lick your face... Not to say Wakame isn't doing well today. We are a team and we take it day by day. Other than cancer this year, she also had pancreatitis, high liver values, and some shaky back legs. But MAN, she is a fighter! Pain for her isn't an option and her will to live and eat (most of the time) are strong. We can learn so much from our animals. They don't ever feel sorry for themselves. Every day of breath is another day of fresh air. Life is beautiful and Wakame reminds me constantly. She sees my face and all is right in the world. When I'm feeling down, I look at her and I am reminded that I am grateful for her presence.

So I have reopened this "go fund me" on my birthday as a request, if possible, to continue to help Wakame on her journey. She still has the energy of life and joy. As her mama, I will do anything to expand that for her, so long as she wants and has the will for it. And boy, she does. Even if it means getting out of my comfort zone and asking for a little extra help.

Regardless, I wish you a very very Happy New Year. In health for the year to come, as this 2018 was a year of true test of health for many. Thank you for reading, and all my love goes out to you all.

Link to updates on Waka's surgery in April. Thank you.

**************************

Hi everyone,

I've been my dog Wakame's sidekick since she was 9 weeks old. Every human and animal that has ever met her can vouch for her wonderful personality, and how happy and energetic she always seems to be no matter the circumstances. An example: At age 5, she became paralyzed and was told she may never walk again. The vet told me to consider her way of life and consider putting her down. We both fought on however, and Wakame showed her strength like the love that she is and started walking again. She gave herself a second life. The vet was shocked and asked me what was my secret, but the real secret was... Wakame is relentless, persistent, loved, and strong.

Well, fast forward to today and Wakame started coughing alot. After a few vet visits, they found a lump in her chest via x-rays and ultrasound. Luckily we caught it early. It can be removed and so far doesn't look like it's spread. I can still give her a third life. Wakame needs surgery to remove the lump as soon as possible. The vet has estimated about $8,000 for the surgery procedure.

I have been devastated and have been keeping this to myself, but honestly I've been holding back tears to get on with daily activity. I can barely answer when someone asks "How are you doing?" I've been putting on a brave face. Like Waka, I have to keep going. Right now I write this because I want to help her keep going. I am heartbroken. I cannot put a price on my best friend. I am willing to go the distance to get her back to her happy self. I want to maximize her life the best way possible as she has given me NOTHING but joy and inspiration.

Wakame will have to have surgery as soon as possible. The risk of the cancer spreading or her condition declining rapidly is too fearful for me to hold off and wait.

I do not like asking for favors, let alone assistance with funding for her. But for Wakame I have to step out of my comfort zone and ask for help. If you guys know me, you guys know HOW MUCH this dog has given me and what she means to me. If you guys own a pet or know what it's like to have a pet, you know that just because they're on 4 legs doesn't make them any less of a family member. They are your child's furry sibling, your furry child, they are an intergrated family member. I would go the distance for any family member that I love.

I would be so grateful for even the smallest donation. Everything and anything would help. I am sorry I have to ask for this but I have to try anything possible to help Wakame's condition.

Thank you for reading this and cheers to life!
