A home is an extension of oneself and reflects who we are. It is a place which is full of treasured memories, laughter, birthdays, family reunions...When you lose your home, you also lose a part of yourself, which is difficult to rebuild.

My name is Tywone Reese and On December 16, 2020, my apartment was flooded due to another unit’s septic tank overflowing into my unit. I have lost the majority of my belonging due to water damage. This has been an emotional roller coaster of a year and to now lose my belongings just a few days before Christmas is taking a toll on me. The living conditions are unfeasible, the landlord only used a wet vac to get the water up, a fan to dry and sprayed something to get the smell out of the apartment. I have asthma and it is unsafe for me to be there.

The landlord is not being cooperative and is refusing to help in any matter. I am currently waiting one the landlord to reach out to the Metro Fair Housing about the situation, but he has yet to do so. This leaves their hands tied as well as mine. There is nothing they can do without the landlord contacting them or reaching back out when contacted. I have also contacted my renter’s insurance as well to get help but I am told that my policy does not include sewage back up. This leaves me no other choice but to seek legal council to get the assistance I need and deserve. If you could please help me in any way, it would be greatly appreciated.
