WAGS Library Expansion: Welsh heritage collections

We invite you to join with others to help raise funds for the LIBRARY EXPANSION Phase II project of the Welsh-American Genealogical Society (WAGS), a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization founded and located in Poultney, Rutland County, Vermont in 1990.  Fund-raising has been a sizeable challenge since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, gifts have continued to be received by WAGS. Each are greatly appreciated.

Please join with others to help this unique collection of Welsh and local history to grow in Poultney.

Phase I of the society's library collection work, which focused on its collection of Mid-western states items, was sent during 2017-2018 to the  Great Plains Welsh Heritage Project (GPWHP) in Wymore, Nebraska.  It is a state-of-the-art museum/library site.

Phase II of WAGS' collection reorganization began third quarter 2018 and it involves the WAGS collection of the New England states, New York State and New Jersey.  Phase II will include other states and world regions.

Poultney Area St. David's Society (PASDS), a 501(c)(7) non-profit Welsh heritage fellowship organization, its officers and its many members, are working with WAGS regarding this and the expansion of the WAGS library / museum.   

Poultney, Rutland County, Vermont was the site of the first public library in the State of Vermont; and of the first known Welsh genealogy society and library in North America.  It was the birthplace in 1811 of George Jones, co-founder of the New York Times newspaper whose parents emigrated from northwest Wales in the late 1700's. 

Poultney was the home following birth to 7 years of age of Jody Williams, (1997) Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Chair, Nobel Women's Initiative. It is also the resting place of Jody's Welsh and Scottish ancestors and residence still of many of her relatives, many who were graduates of GMC and its predecessor institution.
