Wagner Adoption Preparation Fund

We are a couple of young professionals who are looking forward to starting our next chapter. Monica has worked in a charter school as a 7th grade English teacher and will be moving to a different charter school, in the same organization, as a ninth grade English teacher. Hogan works with kids with autism and travels all over the valley to work with families in their home setting. Each of us has been in our helping professions for about 6 years.

In 7 years of marriage we have weathered many storms. We now stand at the start of a new season; one that we hope will involve adopting a sibling set of young children. We have a heart for children who do not have a home and are well positioned to provide a loving one at this point in our lives.

We have been house hunting for 6 months, put three offers in and finally found the right one! It is located in the same community Monica teaches in. We opened escrow on 8/7/17 and anticipate closing in mid September. This house will be essential in enabling us to begin the foster to adopt process. The fact that there are four bedrooms will allow us to take in up to 4 children and still have a guest room for visitors.

Overall, this house will be more than a starter home for us. It is a chance for us to finally begin our family and to be invested in the community we work in. We are also excited at the notion of creating a mini homestead that has a vegetable garden and chickens. There are few places in Los Angeles where this is possible, particularly at a price point we can afford. We want to raise our kids in a way that embraces sustainable practices. This house will allow us to do so with the city's zoning codes.

Although this house was at the very top of what we can afford, it still needs a lot of work to make it ready for a family. Much needs to be done aesthetically to make it a warm and inviting environment. Additionally, setting up two kids rooms with furniture, clothes and toys will be a feat in itself. Despite these hurdles, we are excited to make it our own.

This is where the support of our family and friends comes in. We are hoping to raise funds to help us prepare this home for whoever will be coming our way in the coming months. We are hoping for placement as early as Spring 2018 and as late as Summer 2019. There are many factors that will affect how quickly we are able to get through the process. Unfortunately we can't start the process until the house is ready. This includes having rooms set up and in full compliance with the home study requirements.

We ask that you would consider supporting us. Both prayerfully and financially. All money collected through gofundme will pay for the items and tasks connected to preparing the house for kids. All other renovation expenses will be covered by other means. We look forward to being able to tell our kids just how many people love them and prepared for their arrival!

We are nervous, scared, thrilled, and hopeful as we approach this next season and we greatly appreciate any and all support. Thank you for considering to be a part of this journey with us.
