WA Initiative #2019, Dogs & Cats Natural Life Act

The I-2019 Animal Welfare Natural Life Act is concerned about the welfare of dogs and cats and that they are not subject to cruel laboratory conditions and experiments or a host of other bad conditions by established or illicit firms or outfits. This initiative was filed with the Washington Secretary of State's office on March 14, 2023, under an Initiative to the Legislature, and was issued a ballot title from the state Attorney General's office on March 23rd.

This initiative will likely be voted on by the voters of Washington state as long as the committee can successfully get it on the ballot. This is where your help comes in. The initiative will solely be a volunteer effort, but we will need funds for the costs of printing the petition sheets and perhaps some subsidies for volunteers for their various expenses. Even a couple of dollars helps us to reach our goal of 6750 dollars.

Initiative Measure No. 2019 concerns the humane treatment of cats and dogs.

This measure would prohibit certain experiments, research, and confinement of cats and dogs; regulate breeding mills and sales; regulate custody of more than ten dogs or cats; and provide penalties.

Ballot Measure Summary:

This measure would prohibit certain experiments, research, and confinement of cats and dogs by laboratories, research institutions, and breeding mills; limit use and sale of cats and dogs for research, experiments, or breeding; require owner/dealer certification of compliance; regulate custody of some cats and dogs; provide penalties for violations; and require the Department of Agriculture to approve compliance with these provisions, and to investigate complaints and breeding mill conditions.
