Hi. I’m Bill Weaverling and my son, Dakota, is severely autistic. Dakota’s violent and aggressive behaviors, common to many children and adolescents with severe autism, means he cannot live at home safely.
Studies show that nonintoxicating cannibinoids derived from the marijuana plant are beneficial in treating aggression in severe autism.
A new Virginia General Assembly bill, SB795, will decriminalize possession of these nonintoxicating medical marijuana oils for patients when those oils are recommended by their doctors. This means not just severe autism, but for ANY condition a physician believes their patient may receive some benefit. The bill allows the physician to decide! Many of you know people who have cancer, ALS, MS, Crohn's disesse, hiv, and other debilitating conditions that medical marijuana derivatives may bring benefit or enough relief to improve their quality of life.

Lobbying to help pass SB795 takes time, commitment, and money. Please continue to help Dakota and others needing this treatent by helping us raise $3,000 to continue our lobbying efforts on behalf of this much needed legislation. This money will fund travel back and forth to Richmond and fund various different advertising efforts on behalf of this legislation to spread the word, get voters to pressure their legislators, and to convince those legislators to do the right thing by voting yes on this bill in the General Assembly.
We have some momentum. We have already rasied some awareness through our lobbying efforts so far. Virginia also has a legislative makeup in the General Assembly and a new Governor in Richmond more willing to advance this type of legislation than ever before. VA Senator Dunnavant is who sponsored the bill. She is also known as Dr. Dunnavant. Our new Governor Ralph Northram is also known as Dr. Northram. As medical doctors, they get it. My fellow Virginians, we have right now the greatest chance we have had and may ever have to advance legislation of this kind in the 2018 General Assembly session. The time is right and we need to strike while the iron is hot! Let's make it happen!
Any money generously donated above and beyond the $3,000 will be divided and donated equally to two great local Hampton Roads autism-related organizations. The first will will be Tidewater Autism Society of America (www.tidewaterasa.org). This is a fantastic charitable organization. They do a lot of great work in the community so please check out their website. The second organization will be Plan Bee Academy (www.planbeeacademy.org). This is a private, nonprofit ,educational facility that specializes in meeting the educational needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and related disabilities. This is by far the best private autism day school in the Hampton Roads area and quite possibly the state.
Dakota, like many others like him, deserves to live a quality life at home with his family. Medical marijuana derivatives and oils will allow the treatment he needs to be able to calm his aggressive tendencies and successfully come home.
As a reminder, because this bill basically says "let the doctor's decide who needs it for whatever condition", passing this bill may benefit those with other conditions too.
