Celia's surgery

Donation protected
Hello,

We are Ziggy's Rescue, a Canadian non-profit society that rescues dogs from remote communities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. We work with volunteers and foster homes. Our only form of funding, comes from adoption fees and donations. Every single dollar goes back into the rescue: towards medical care, spay and neuter, transportation, food, puppy pads,...

On April 30th, Celia arrived on Vancouver Island with her 2 puppies and went into foster care. Celia is a beautiful, sweet-natured young Shepherd X. Unfortunately, one of her puppies became ill and her body wasn't strong enough to fight the disease. Celia and her other puppy survived. However, Celia's foster mom noticed a slight limp in her walk. We took Celia into the vet clinic for Xrays.

The Xrays revealed old fractures in Celia's left leg, hips and pelvis. Our best assumption is that she was run over by a car when she was younger and the injuries were left untreated. Celia also has pellets in her body, meaning someone shot at this sweet girl. The vet told us this is a complicated case and there was no straightforward answer based on the images. Further examination was required. Amputation of the left leg was discussed, but this would put too much pressure on her right side. So we took Celia in for more Xrays to better assess her pelvis. After reviewing these images, the vet suggests a femoral head excision. This is a salvage procedure which would give Celia the best chances of a recovery and quality of life.

Being a non-profit organization, we do not have the money for these kinds of medical costs. The total estimate for the surgery, all the radiology images, exams and medication is between $5000 and $6000. It is a very hard pill to swallow. If you meet Celia, you immediately understand why we are willing to put our rescue through this financial crisis rather than euthanizing... She is the most gentle soul. She will sit next to you for cuddles, loves watching the world go by on the porch, playing with the other dogs in her foster home, is an amazing momma to her one surviving puppy...

Knowing that Celia has been (presumably) hit by a car, her wounds left untreated, shot at with pellets and has lost all but one of her puppies...is absolutely heartbreaking. We cannot fail her now. We will get her this life saving surgery and we need your help! You can donate through this GoFundMe or directly to our vet - Coombs veterinary Hospital.

Thank you very much,

The Ziggy's Rescue team of volunteers and Celia
