PTSD Service Dogs for Veterans

Donation protected
Dayton Dog Trainer is a small family owned business near Dayton, Ohio. We provide dogs for those needing a service dog for PTSD Rehab and stability, as well as Traumatic Brain Injury or simply a companion dog to those veterans needing someone to be there for them.

We receive, on average, 6 calls a day from veterans in desperate need of a service animal. We hear heart-breaking stories every day and we have to tell them there is no funding to assist them in obtaining a dog. We always advise them to start a GoFundMe page, but with their minds already in a desperate state, they feel they have no time or feel it won't do any good.

It breaks our heart to have to tell these men and women, who have given so much for our freedom, that we are unable to help, because there is no money.

So, we are starting this page to provide those veterans who truly need a dog to assist them, with a highly trained companion. The cost will vary, depending on the need. But commonly, it will be used in the following ways.

These are only averages and common expenses

HOW THE MONEY WILL BE SPENT - (Averages)
- Selection Tested Guaranteed Working Dog - 10K
- Service Training - 12K
- Handler & Transport Equipment - 2K
- Food & Vet - 250 to 500
- Lodging & Travel for Veteran to Attend Handler Training - 2K
- Investigation Costs - FREE to 1K (on average) This will allow us to investigate the veteran who is in need, to check their military background, their diagnosis and their intentions. Costs can include paperwork, filing fees, records checks and obtaining information. We have to also make sure the veteran client has the proper housing or setting to keep his / her new service animal. Many times, this can be done at no charge, but there may be times where we need to look a bit harder to assure that what we are being told is accurate.

SELECTION TESTED WORKING DOGS
As you will see, the price of a service dog is very expensive. We do not purchase dogs from the general public. All dogs we obtain come from national suppliers who provide working dogs to police departments and the military. The reason we purchase these dogs, as opposed to private breeders is because this type of dog is guaranteed to work. If they don't work out, we either receive a new dog or we are able to get the money back. This normally isn't the case when it comes to private breeder. We could end up spending thousands on a dog from a private breeder and the dog just doesn't work out. If that happens, we are out of alot of money we cannot get back. So, we want to do it right from the start and obtain a dog that is guaranteed to work ... has been tested and selected and meets the requirements we are looking for.

These dogs come with 4 guarantees...
1.) Trainability Guarantee
2.) Health Guarantee
3.) Skeletal Guarantee
4.) Compatibility Guarantee

The cost covers the dog, the testing and selection process, immunizations, any import cost (if applicable) and X-Rays

FOR THE CLIENT
When a veteran leaves here with his / her dog, we do not want them to worry about anything. This money will purchase everything they need. This will cover the cost of the dog, the training for the dog, the training for the client, the dogs food while it is with us, the handler equipment the client will need to handle the dog, the service vest, the equipment needed to transport the dog in a vehicle, and the equipment needed in the home, such as crate, bowls, leashes, collars, etc. We don't want our veteran clients to have to worry about putting out any money.

HOW MANY DOGS CAN WE PROVIDE
Raising 50K should allow us to provide 2 service dogs. If all goes well, we would like to keep this going, so we can continue to provide dogs. Right now, the average wait time to receive a donated dog from a huge non-profit organization, is 7 years. This is totally unacceptable.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE
From the time the veteran is approved for a dog, we should be able to provide a trained dog to the veteran in 3 to 6 months. Sometimes, it may take longer, depending on what the client needs.

Not only would we be grateful for those who could assist us, but the veterans who will receive these dogs will be unbelievably grateful. They send these brave men and women to the VA or to hospitals and pump them full of drugs. They send them to talk to someone over and over about the worst day of their lives and sometimes, they can't get any help. For some of these men and women, a dog could be the difference between life and death. Although these recovery tactics are needed, we all know that for many, it is not the complete answer.

LIFE and DEATH
Every day, 20 military veterans are committing suicide. We aren't saying that a dog is the complete answer to this problem, but for many, it can and will help. For some, simply providing them with a companion who can recognize when a veteran is going into a bad state of mind and pull them out of it ... CAN LITERALLY SAVE THEIR LIFE.

We ask that you donate what you can. Each time we are able to provide a dog, we will post it on our website at DaytonDogTrainer. com. If the veteran is willing, we will even provide pictures and video of the process of each veteran receiving their dog and going through training, on our website.

If you would like to donate the full amount for a single dog, you are welcome to contact us by phone, located on our website at daytondogtrainer. com.

Thank you for looking at our posting. We hope you will consider helping us in providing one of our Great American Warriors with the help they are asking for!
