JACK FURNARI ENDOWMENT FUND

Our colleague, friend, fourth year medical student, and our larger than life bearded superman, Jack Furnari, was recently called back to the skies this December after a long battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme, known in the world of medicine as the most lethal of brain tumors.
When Jack was first diagnosed with this disease, he stated, "I have been blessed. It is my dream that others may learn from me, from this disease". It was almost as though Jack knew he had a greater calling in this life, and he accepted this calling with bravery, faith, and grace. Jack's love of medicine, of learning, only grew throughout his process.
Jack's departure from this physical realm has left a void in the hearts of so many people. It has also left us with a resolution, an utter devotion, to make sure that Jack's wishes are seen to fruition.
Those of us at the Central Michigan University College of Medicine are starting an Endowment Fund in Jack's honor. This fund must have at least $25,000-$50,000 initial donation to ensure it's success. The fund would become a scholarship fund, granted to incoming medical students in Jack's honor. The scholarship funds are generated from interest off of the initial donation, and this gaurantees that this scholarship would be indefinite, going on forever, keeping Jack's mission going on forever, allowing his mission to live through each recipient. To be considered, the applicant will have had to have their lives or the life of a loved one also touched by cancer, or will share Jack's mission in life toward beating cancer through research and determination. The applicant will be picked by the University and by the family through essay submission.
As a physician, Jack would have treated thousands. As a benefactor, Jack's mission will be carried on through thousands, and thus, Jack will be treating millions far into the future, far after we all join Jack in the skies. This is his legacy, this is how we can keep his mission alive.
