W4Charity Walk Against Cancer

Donation protected
We are Walk for Charity Ghana, a team of young Ghanaians who want to participate in ambitious events to reach a very ambitious goal. We want to fight cancer in Ghana.

Between August 1 and August 6 our team, led by Reuben Bekoe (who previously cycled the length and breadth of Ghana to raise money for cleft lip operations) will embark on a 260km walk from Kumasi to Accra hoping to raise the equivalent of £10k to support children living with cancer in Ghana.

This walk means a lot to Reuben and all of us because we'll be able to honour his late mother and all those who've lost the battle against cancer.

It's a fact that almost 80% of childhood cancers are curable. However, as high as 60% of Ghanaian children with cancer die or abandon treatment.

Your support will help us to ensure that the cancer can be identified and treated. The money will be used to fund a restocked cancer unit in the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana's second-city. Right now, the hospital cannot cope with the volume of patients it receives. Right now, it costs anywhere between £700 to £3000 to fight and win the battle against cancer in Ghana. This is not something most patients can afford. So, right now, cancer is winning.

But we're fighting back. We need the funds immediately, and have set ourselves the month of August to raise all that we can because the equipment is not cheap and even after ordering them, they will take some time to reach the hospital. We want to make sure that we have enough money to pay any import duties or port fees so that we can minimise the time it will take to start saving lives and to strengthen the fight against cancer here in Ghana.

If you supported us it would mean the world to us and the people in West Africa that we are able to help. In the fight against cancer across the globe, the young poorer African child is often forgotten. But cancer is a disease that is no respecter of persons.

We would be forever thankful and we would make sure that we share with the patients in Kumasi just how far your contribution has gone to helping them fight for life.
