Care for Katie

Donation protected
On December 16th, 2017, fifteen year old Katelyn Mullett (Katie) of Lindsay was rushed to Toronto Sick Kids hospital with acute kidney failure.   For the last four months, Katie and her mother, Hollie, have been camped out at Sick Kids while the doctors tried to determine the cause of her illness.  It took them a long time to finally come up with a diagnosis:  Anti-GBM (anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antibody disease) or Goodpasture's Disease.  It is extremely rare and attacks the kidneys and lungs --as it did with Katie.    Katie's treatment regime was rigorous and required her to stay at Sick Kids.  Hollie, unused to the big city, was housed at the Ronald MacDonald house for the last four months.  She had to stop working to care for Katie.  Katie was discharged two weeks ago to undergo dialysis in Peterborough while awaiting a kidney transplant.  Two days ago, she had 4 grand mal seizures and was airlifted back to Sick Kids.

Katie and her parents need your help.  They have incurred travel, food, accommodation and emergency aid bills beyond their means to pay.  To date they have accumulated $4,000 in related bills.  This amount will continue to grow  especially since they are now back at Sick Kids.   Going forward, Katie's treatment options  all require travel and accomodation.  This has been and will continue to be a long haul for them.   Katie will be put on a kidney donation list in June as long as her health can be stabilized and then the big wait for a kidney...

Please consider helping this family.  Their spirits are low and they are in great need of support.
