<div>Let us begin by telling you a love story, one many of us were lucky enough to witness.

<div>Nathan Honas spent his entire life in Medicine Lodge before heading to Fort Hays State University to earn his teaching degree. After teaching away from home for a time, he returned to Medicine Lodge, much to the excitement of friends, students, and the community. We were getting back not only a great teacher, but an even greater human.

<div>There was just one question: How would Nathan ever find a wife in such a small town? That’s where God’s perfect timing stepped in.

</div>

<div>Kayla Zerr, a sweet young woman from northwest Kansas, came to Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital for a clinical rotation. Someone who knew both Nathan and Kayla immediately saw it, this was no coincidence. Before long, introductions were made, plans were set, and it became clear these two were meant for each other.

<div>Nathan and Kayla were married on June 5, 2021, and their love has since grown into a beautiful family. They are the proud parents of two precious daughters: Chloe Diane (3 years old) and Elsie Mae (5 months old).

</div>

<div>The reason we share their story is because the vows Nathan and Kayla took, in sickness and in health, have taken on a profound meaning over the past couple of weeks.

</div>

<div>Nathan became seriously ill and, after extensive testing and scans, was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia, a rare and aggressive blood cancer. His treatment will require weeks of hospitalization and intensive chemotherapy.

</div>

<div>During this time, we are asking for prayers:

<div>	•	For Nathan, that he has the physical and mental strength to endure aggressive treatment

<div>	•	For Kayla, that she is filled with unwavering faith and strength as she stands beside the love of her life

<div>	•	For Chloe and Elsie, that they continue to feel surrounded by love during this incredibly difficult time

</div>

<div>	•	For Nathan’s parents and family, as they support their son while caring for their grandbabies

</div>

<div>	•	And for all family and friends who are stepping in to support this sweet family in countless ways

<div>Kayla will remain by Nathan’s side throughout his treatment. As a community, we want to lift the weight of everyday worries—house payments, medical expenses, fuel, food, and basic living costs—so they can focus on what matters most: healing and family.
