Hello Friends, Family, and anyone this may come across,
My name is Matthew Krumpe. I am a 30 year old professional dancer/choreographer/performance artist from Los Angeles CA and I am in need of some assistance.
I hate to do this as I pride myself on being self sufficient and being able to take care of myself but the past few weeks/months have been very tough on me medically and I need some financial help.
In January of 2020 I was let go of my longterm job at ALDO shoes due to restructuring. This was very sudden and unexpected as I had just won district manager of the year (Club Elite) a sales game that I had won multiple times previously for my consistent results. The company cancelled my medical coverage the same day and even though I was offered the bridge Cobra insurance it was anywhere from 6-800 dollars a month which I could not afford especially with no job. Due to the times we are in I have applied to over 150 jobs over the past 8 months and although I have gotten a few gigs here and there , nothing consistent enough to really keep me afloat. I am on unemployment but due to there being no rent relief in this country it has barely covered my rent and utilities.
I have incurred a lot of credit card debt that I am paying off but not nearly as fast as I would like and I feel like I am drowning .
I am HIV positive - undetectable and luckily was approved for a year of my medication through a program but its about to run out. One bottle of my medication is almost 3700 dollars. I haven't been tested for blood work since January. While I'm fine, this is still something I need to do every three months.
I am also a colorectal cancer survivor. I need a follow up appointment 2 years post surgery to ensure nothing has grown back . My colonoscopy was scheduled for march but had to be indefinitely postponed. This would cost about 3000 dollars.
I applied for CoveredCA and Medical and was denied from both because I made too much money last year. So I have no insurance at the moment.
A few weeks ago my gums were bleeding significantly when I was brushing my teeth and I went to a dental group thinking that it would be 150 for a cleaning. They advised me that I had advanced periodontal disease and I needed deep cleanings on both sides of my mouth. This probably could have been avoided but my dental appts in feb were cancelled when I lost my insurance.
The total cost was approximately 2000. I took out a care credit card to pay for it, which now adds to my debt.
During the cleaning, the dentist did a poor job aspirating the infected tissue/liquid out of my mouth which caused an infection in one of my tonsils.
This was another visit to my doctor without insurance, multiple tests done to figure out what it was, medications etc which set me back another 600 dollars.
Follow up with yesterday. I was dancing and I twisted my right ankle pretty bad and heard something snap. I currently cant bear full weight on it, point or plie/squat on the right side.
I need to get an xray which is going to cost 450 dollars to figure out what exactly happened. Ill need a doctor visit , potentially physical therapy based on what it is, an air cast etc, visits to my chiro/physiotherapist for electro stim.
This will probably set me back another 2000-2500.
I recently started teaching some dance classes and choreographing solos/duets/trios for a dance studio in LA. This injury could potentially lose me the only sort of wages that I am making at this point as I have already had to get classes covered due to inability to fully walk.
I know there is so much going on in the world right now politically, socially and many people are in the same boat.
1. First thing I am asking for if anyone has a lead or can hire me for a fulltime job with health benefits this will really solve my issues so I can get back to being productive and get myself out of debt. I can send my resume.
2. I am setting the amount at 2600
- 2000 dental bills
- 600 doctor bills for infection
To help pay for out of pocket medical bills I have already incurred that cannot be reimbursed.
