Help the Henry Family
I started this fundraiser for my grandparents, Jim and Connie Henry as they suffer the loss of their home.
On October 22nd their house, located about 12 miles west of Lakin, had caught on fire around 2:00 PM. My grandma was woken from her nap to the smell of smoke and to the sound of fire alarms. She was able to escape the burning house but was only able to gather her cell phone and wallet.
She dialed 911 immediately and first responders arrived as soon as they could.
Despite the extreme and greatly appreciated efforts of our fire department, the house was a total loss. The department fought the fire for nearly 4 hours while my grandma and family watched in horror.
During this time my grandpa was in Garden City for an appointment and other errands. He does not have a cell phone, so my family was unable to reach him to share and warn him of the news.
When my grandpa arrived to what was supposed to be his home, he found my family, firefighters and first responders staring at the rubble left over.
My grandparents are deeply suffering the loss of their dog Velvet and all that their home had held. Although the loss of documents, photos, and memories are irreplaceable; We are thankful that my grandma made it out safely and relatively uninjured.
My grandparents are in their early 70s and did not have home insurance. They are faced to start over with absolutely nothing.
If at all possible, my hope is to raise enough money for them to buy clothes, food, and a start to their next living situation and expenses.
Again, we are thankful for the first responders for handling this nightmare with compassion and we are thankful for the brave firefighters for their hard work and efforts. We are also thankful for the VA and Red Cross for providing assistance in getting their medications and other immediate relief.
Please keep my grandparents in your prayers as this will be a long road for them.
Thank you and God Bless.
