Sam Harris and his crew, want to be part of bringing 29’er sailing back to Kingston yacht club (KYC). Doing so will take more than 20 knot winds, and aside from the hours of dedicated learning that it takes to learn a new vessel’s ways , the costs of owning and operating a boat are significant. This brings me to my need to raise money for this adventure.
As a water lover I’ve been sailing and enjoying water my entire life. When I was eight, I joined the Opti program at Kingston Yacht Club (KYC). I quickly connected to the sport and earned awards for both my skills in the boat and on the race course; and my sportsmanship: CAN-sail 1-5, Spinnaker and trapeze, Opti race team best sportsmanship, Coaches award, and most valuable sailor.
Through sailing I continue to develop skills such as teamwork, communication, and resilience. I continue to strive for greatness in my sport even in cases where our placement isn’t first – all races are learning experiences, and arguably you learn more in defeat. Leadership is necessary for my position in the boat, as the skipper not only am I steering I’m in control of our tactical decisions, keen tactile decisions win races. The skills I developed while sailing will not only guide me in the water, but also inform my future tacking into the real world and the job market, I look to my future after sailing where Id hope to coach, I believe as a coach, my sailing skills and leadership will constantly be tested. As an avid sailor and water lover I understand the importance of protecting the water and our ecosystems that exist there, that’s one of the reasons I started spending my time sailing instead of in a motorboat or a jet ski.
The goal with the money raised is to purchase the new boat I’m moving into, the 29er, a Skiff that will teach me advanced sailing techniques and continue to develop my racing abilities, being given the opportunity to race this boat is huge and something I wouldn’t want to miss. So please help me in getting to my goal of sailing a 29er, by donating today!
