Help Lindsay Beat This Brain Tumour

Lindsay aged 22 was diagnosed with a brain tumour (Glioma) in July 2013 after 2 years of debilitating illness.

In July 2013 our lives changed forever when he collapsed  suffering a grand mal (tonic clonic) seizure which eventually led to his diagnosis of a brain tumour in his left temporal lobe.

Being told by a Neurosurgeon that surgery was not recommended due to the risks and the impact it could have to his cognitive function such as communication, reading and writing was not what we expected to hear.

Lindsay suffers intractable epilepsy (intractable epilepsy is when seizures cannot be controlled effectively by anti seizure medication), he can suffer up to 20 seizures per day, his condition also causes pain,  vomiting, nausea and lack of appetite. Lindsay has both tonic clonic (grand mal) seizures and focal seizures.

Seizures have become a scary part of our daily lives and Lindsay requires 24/7 support because of seizures.

In 2015 he became the first patient approved for  schedule 9 botanical medical cannabis in Australia and this had helped him in so many ways. He was able to have a significant reduction in seizures, relief from nausea and vomiting, his tumour reduced and all of the swelling around the tumour also reduced. He was able to start to live more like a normal 22 year old.

It has became impossible to sustain the costs of ongoing treatment.

When Lindsay ran out of one of his medicines (due to the prohibitive cost) he was hospitalised 3 times within 2 weeks and had as many as 5 tonic clonic seizures within 24 hours.  Not having access to all of the medicine he needs has severely impacted his quality of life. His life is at risk without the medicine he needs.

There has been nothing more frustrating for us to see our son thriving on a treatment and it not being able to be affordable or accessible long term and having his life potentially hanging in the balance again.

Lindsays life is at risk without consistent treatment and he needs a long term resolution to this situation.

Current costs to sustain just two of his medicines in Australia without any medical consultations would be $90,144 per year.

We are raising money for Lindsays ongoing medicine costs and also medical care.

Please help if you can by sharing this fundraiser or donating and please help Lindsay beat this brain tumour!
