Vulcan the Service Dog's Surgery

Donation protected

Vulcan the Service Puppy is J.D. Hallowell's 8-month old Great Dane who is in training to be his balance and mobility service dog. J.D. is a disabled veteran living on a very limited income. Vulcan and he adore each other, and J.D. credits Vulcan with having saved his life at least once already . On the morning of February 2nd, Vulcan began showing symptoms of what appeared to be bloat, every Great Dane owner's nightmare. JD rushed him to the vet. On x-ray, the vet found that it was not bloat, but that the puppy had somehow swallowed a sewing needle and needed emergency surgery to remove it.

As this is being written, the puppy is out of surgery but still in veterinary intensive care. He is expected to be released tomorrow afternoon and will need continuing antibiotics, medications to treat gastritis, and a special prescription diet for several more weeks.  After applying the Care Credit balance and J.D.'s own personal resources to the bill, the remaining costs associated with the emergency veterinary care are expected to come to right around $3000, and any funds raised will be used directly to pay for Vulcan's care. The veterinary hospital very generously performed the surgery without requiring full payment up front, but any balance remaining after 30 days will be subject to steep interest and fees, so the sooner donations are received, the greater the impact they will have.

Words connot express the gratitude any donation at all will inspire.

Thank you for your help.
