Anthony’s Fight
I am raising awareness on behalf of Victor Prashad who is an amazing man who is hard working, a great friend and the least selfish person I know. He has dedicated his life to his 2 children as a single father and overcome many obstacles in his life. His son Anthony Prashad (18), has Autism and now has been recently diagnosed with Leukemia. Anthony requires round the clock supervision and support by his father throughout his aggressive chemotherapy treatments and hospital stay, so that he has a fighting chance of surviving this awful disease.
Anthony has grown up to be a great young man, and has overcome many obstacles, because of the loving support of his amazing father, Victor who has struggled his whole life and sacrificed many things in order to put both of his kids first before himself. He became a single father to Anthony and his sister when Anthony was diagnosed with Autism, and has continued to share his love for him endlessly.
Victor embraced the challenges and spent years never looking back, and threw himself deep into the world of Autism, so he could fully understand the challenges his son was going to face so that he knew how to handle and communicate with him and understand his needs. Victor even learned sign language along with other forms of ways to communicate with Anthony during the many years where Anthony would not speak, helping Anthony to reach his full potential to be able to learn how to communicate with words. Anthony is his world.
Like any child, video games, cycling and fishing off their canoe which Victor saved up for him and Anthony to enjoy, are some of Anthony's favorite things along with pizza and hamburgers of course. Thanks to Victor, he has been able to explore these great moments with his dad. Victor wants nothing more than to allow his son to live a normal life and to enjoy all the things any boy his age would want to do. Although Anthony is Autistic, that is not an obstacle in Victors eyes. There are no challenges that Victor will not overcome with Anthony.
Recently Anthony has been hit again with more challenges for his future. Anthony has suffered a seizure prior to his diagnosis of Leukemia which has set him back a bit with his communication as well with this terrible disease he has lost almost 100 lbs so far in only a few short weeks. Victor once again faces many challenges ahead but no matter what, is by Anthony’s side to help him communicate to hospital staff as well.
Anthony and Victor will continue to receive the love and support from their family and friends but he is going to need more then that. I would like to reach out to ask for others to help out in a way that will mean so much and will be valuable to help Anthony fight this disease. With everyone’s financial support, it will allow Victor the freedom to know his daily bills will be covered and he won't have to worry about life's expenses while he is taking care of Anthony. Victor has been staying at the hospital at Anthony’s side ever since he was diagnosed with this terrible disease. It helps keep Anthony comfortable and secure so that he doesn’t fight the Chemo and treatments.
The focus of this fundraiser is to allow Victor the freedom without financial worry, to spend every minute of the day with his son so he can comfort him and help Anthony understand and win this battle. Even when Anthony is released from his hospital stay, Victor will have to bring him to outpatient treatments and many doctors’ appointments. We are all praying for Anthony’s recovery and to win this battle against Leukemia. We want Anthony to continue exploring and enjoying more special moments in his life with his family and especially with his biggest supporter, his dad.
Please look in heart and give what you can to remove the financial burden from Victor and allow him this time with his son and to allow Anthony this time with his dad, so that he feels safe throughout his treatments. Anything will help to keep this father and son relationship strong and healthy. Thank you for your support.
