Help Alex's Family

January 14th at 11 pm, Alex was rushed to the hospital for having an unknown episode. Several hours later in the emergency room, he had another episode which was confirmed as a seizure. The cause of the seizure was dangerously low sodium levels that were a result of drinking too much water. He spent the next 2 days in the ICU, receiving treatment and having his sodium levels monitored. He was in pain every time he was moved, but the main concern remained to be his sodium levels. Once he was released from the ICU to a regular unit, we continued to stress concerns over his apparent pain. After an x-ray was ordered, we found out he had a broken hip from intense muscle contraction during the seizure. At the end of that week, Alex had a successful partial hip replacement. He remained in the hospital for a few days to be monitored and receive physical therapy which he did not comply with due to the times they were offered (during times he was eating or using the bathroom). This caused Alex to be rejected from many rehabilitation facilities and prolonged his hospital stay. After receiving advocacy from a Down syndrome of Louisville friend and his doctors at the Lee's Clinic, Alex was approved for Frazier Rehab on February 1st. On February 2nd, my mom, Cyndi, had to have emergency surgery on her finger due to a bone infection. Alex was released from Frazier on February 7th. During these 4 weeks, my mom was unable to receive personal care pay from Alex's Medicaid waiver because he was in a skilled nursing facility, even though mom and dad were unable to leave his side as he needs one on one care. This has put my parents in some financial distress after not receiving pay during this time. My dad used all of his sick days during this time, and my mom continues to need help with Alex since her finger is healing from surgery and Alex is still in pain and unbalanced. The only company that had availability and had been helping mom for the last week, was informed today that Seven Counties would not pay for their services. If mom could pay out of pocket for this help, she would.
My parents need help recovering from lack of pay during his inpatient care as well as funds for assistance with my brother while my dad is working. Thank you all so much!
