October 2019 Current Shelter ***This Campaign is in CANADIAN FUNDS*** Dejan Gacic is the owner and sole caregiver to 700+ dogs at Vucjak Shelter in Kragujevac, Serbia. Dejan not only cares for these dogs, he sleeps in this small enclosure all winter stoking the wood burning stove constantly to keep all the dogs warm. This small 2 room wood cabin held 350 dogs LAST winter. With the intake of 300+ dogs since the spring, he is seriously over capacity and there's no space to keep all the dogs warm. This man's commitment to the welfare of these animals is astounding but he can't do it alone. We need shelter and time is running out! Together we have the power to change their future. WARNING GRAPHIC “The story of stray animals in Serbia is a horrible testament of torture, burning, poisoning, killing and even raping of these innocent creatures. The majority of city shelters within Serbia employ euthanasia as the only way to solve the problem of stray dogs. But this is not regular euthanasia by lethal injection. This is brutal, torturous killing. Once dogs are captured through cruel methods, employees of Zoo Hygiene Dept., transport them to kill pounds. On arrival the animals are imprisoned within desolate cages without any food or water for many days, some resorting to cannibalism to feed their hunger. Those who survive are then beaten and abused before suffering horrific and barbaric deaths at the hands of butchers”.

Fast forward to today October 2019 and Dejan is currently the sole caregiver of over 700+ dogs, 40 cats, 12 wolves, 2 fox and one jackal. Alot has changed, many great things are in place but there is still so much to do. One man taking care of all these animals for all these years needs our support.
