Help for Lori

Lori became an insulin dependent diabetic when she was 7 years old. And later told that she would not live past 40. Well, she'll turn 56 this summer. So, by the grace of God, she's made it past her expiration date. When she was 44, she had to have a triple bypass and two days later, she had two strokes that almost killed her. The doctors had come to me and told me to be prepared for the worst. The lead doctor issued a command for a shot that he said would save her, she only had minutes and it had to be given immediately. He had given her the incorrect diagnosis, but the correct action. She came out of it and a few months later we discovered the stroke damage in her brain.  Life went on with a few modifications to her life. She was no longer able to work and had a "patented" new walk. A few years later, her kidneys began to fail. She prepared for dialysis with new implants. We chose the peritoneal dialysis path and things were fine until she began to have to go through other surgeries. After finding a perfect kidney match from a living donor, the the hospital running the "Implant list", told her that they were taking her off the list and the reason given was what society calls a "no answer - answer". All during her trials and issues, she kept her faith and witnessed to anyone who would listen.  She took this as a sign that she was to remain as she was and try to help others, which she did through her stories of what she had been through and how she got through everything that had been thrown at her. She was nicknamed "Polly Peritoneal" by her kidney doctors and nurses because of her attitude and outlook on life and her treatments. She spoke with individuals about to start dialysis to help them in any way she could. Her current doctors believe that she will live at least another 10 years. But............  Now, she needs help. She was promised help by individuals for fundraisers and such, none of which happened. We are looking at expenses coming hard and coming fast. We have made all the changes we can to prepare ourselves, but, we need to finish paying for the loans that covered her current out of pocket expenses but the future expenses are arriving now and more are quickly approaching.  If we do not get help soon, I don't know what we will do because my pockets are empty.  Her dialysis is about to need adjustments and currently she started having issues with her feet already losing two toes and now has a sore on the side of her foot and there appears to be a broken to right next to the sore and possibly an infection at the break. We are praying for a broken toe, which sounds hard, but the alternative is very grim. I was pulled aside and told that if it's an infection in the bone, she could lose the leg....or her life. Problem is, dialysis prevents doctor's from the best MRI's so they can't be as sure. We are waiting on the radiologists the doctor is speaking with to review his x-rays and make a determination or give him an alternative. If it's an infection, we're in deep trouble. If that's it, and she only loses a foot or leg then we will be needing care giver services and probably home health care services also in the near future. Medicare will only cover some of the home health care services and none of the care giver services that we will be needing help with. We couldn't afford the costs associated with her upcoming needs, even if we had the loans we have used to pay for her care in the past paid off. The $50,000 we are asking for will pay for current out if pocket costs, the newest bills that doctors are asking for that they had worked with us on in the past but are no longer willing to do so, as well as some of the rapidly approaching costs that we are being told to start getting ready for. I am sure that we will need more than we are asking for now, but we can pray and work on that bridge as we get even closer to it. Lori has never asked for anything other than prayer for what she has been through. Now, I, am asking for her. Please, the financial burden has become so large and imposing, well, I put it like this, "This mule simply can't handle even one more brick being put on the wagon." She, we, need your help. Any donation of any size will be greatly appreciated and go to her care. As of 5/17, one week in, the donations to date have broken one brick of this mule's load and it has fallen off the wagon.
