Support Chris Smalls who was fired by AMAZON

Chris Smalls, a management assistant at the facility, known as JFK8, said he was fired Monday afternoon following the strike. Smalls and other employees walked out to call attention to the lack of protections for warehouse workers. The workers are also urging Amazon to close the facility after a worker tested positive for the coronavirus last week. The organizers said that at least 50 people joined the walkout.

Up against a GIANT, against all odds, Chris Smalls stood up for workers' rights requesting protection for himself and others requesting PPE and sanitizing at the Amazon site, his request was denied...and he was subsequently fired!

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic essential workers have suffered disproportionate exposure in the workplace due to a lack of personal protective equipment (PPE), negligent safety guidelines, callous and unrealistic performance standards, and inadequate compensation. These failings have led to unmitigated spread of the virus, with little to no health or financial safety net to support workers and families through this difficult time.

The changes in company policy since the beginning of the pandemic has barely scratched the surface of what is needed to keep these workers safe. It is now August and many of the health concerns raised by Christian Smalls back in March still have not been addressed. Cases continue to rise in warehouses and workplaces worldwide and Amazon has not been transparent or honest about these numbers with their employees, the media, or the public. Workers who have been willing to vocalize concerns have been met with retaliation and in some cases job termination.

Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world with an estimated net worth of $181,000,000,000 (as of Friday, July 31, 2020). Recently, he has cut the $2 per hour hazard pay for warehouse workers, decreased health care benefits, and continues to retaliate against vocal and concerned employees. The Congress of Essential Workers (TCOEW) refuses to stand aside as a man who increased his wealth by $13 billion in a single day during July continues to exploit human lives.
