<div>Tot augustus 2025 waren we gewoon een gelukkig jong Familie. Niek en ik genoten van het leven met onze kleine jongen, Philip, maakten plannen voor de toekomst en droomden over alles wat ons te wachten stond.

<div>Toen veranderde onze wereld van de ene op de andere dag.

<div>Niek kreeg de diagnose: glioblastoom (WHO-graad 4),de meest agressieve vorm van hersenkanker. Hij onderging een hersenoperatie, gevolgd door chemotherapie en radiotherapie. Een tijdje hoopten we dat de behandeling had gewerkt.

<div>Helaas is de tumor teruggekeerd.
</div>

<div>Toen artsen in Nederland ons vertelden dat er geen verdere behandelingsmogelijkheden meer beschikbaar waren, weigerden we het op te geven. We hebben contact opgenomen met gespecialiseerde centra voor hersentumoren in Duitsland, België en de Verenigde Staten, en verschillende experts zijn van mening dat er nog steeds behandelingen zijn die de moeite waard zijn om na te streven.

<div>Niek bereidt zich nu voor op een nieuwe hersenoperatie in een gespecialiseerd ziekenhuis in Dresden. Na de operatie is hem geadviseerd om te beginnen met Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields), een innovatieve behandeling die niet wordt gedekt door onze Nederlandse ziektekostenverzekering. Samen met de operatie, diagnostiek, reiskosten en accommodatie zijn de kosten overweldigend.

<div>We vragen simpelweg om de kans om alle medisch verantwoordelijk behandelingen te ondergaan die Niek meer tijd met ons kunnen geven – en, nog belangrijker, meer tijd met onze tweejarige zoon, Philip.

<div>Until August 2025, we were simply a happy young family. Niek and I were enjoying life with our little boy, Philip. We were making plans for the future and dreaming about everything that lay ahead.
</div>

<div>Then our world changed overnight.
</div>

</div>
<div>Niek was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (WHO grade 4), the most aggressive form of brain cancer. He underwent brain surgery, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. For a while, we hoped the treatment had worked.
</div>

<div>Sadly, the tumour returned.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>When doctors in the Netherlands told us there were no further treatment options available, we refused to give up. We contacted specialised brain tumour centres in Germany, Belgium, and the United States, and several experts believe there are still treatments worth pursuing.
</div>

</div>
<div>Niek is now preparing for another brain operation at a specialised hospital in Dresden. After the surgery, he has been advised to begin Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields), an innovative treatment that is not covered by our Dutch health insurance. Together with the costs of surgery, diagnostics, travel, and accommodation, the financial burden is overwhelming.

<div>We are not asking for a miracle.
</div>

<div>We are simply asking for the chance to pursue every medically responsible treatment that could give Niek more time with us—and, most importantly, more time with our two-year-old son, Philip.
