Von Hamburg an die Weltspitze

(English Version below)

Herzlichst Ihr Karate Team HTB

PS: Ab 24.

English Version:

Dear potential supporters,

it sounds almost like a fairy tale. The Karate Team HTB (Harburger TB von 1865 e. V.) is a young ambitious team from Hamburg, which about 10 years ago had the spontaneous idea to travel together to the biggest karate championships in the world. Behind the Karate Team HTB hides only a small karate department of about 15 active competitors of a local traditional club in Hamburg. In the meantime, the HTB team has made it to the big world stage. They have already won 12 German championship titles, the Grand Prix in Bratislava, the British and Irish Open, as well as numerous placings at the Turkish Open, Belgian Open, Swedish Open and most recently at the Paris Open 2023. These and other successes have led to the fact that our small division has already produced 5 national squad athletes and we can currently also present one of the best female karate athletes in the world in Reem Khamis.
Reem is for us the epitome of successful integration. That is what every sports club should stand for. Under the care of Ralf Becker, a small shy girl became the number 1 in the world rankings.
In 2013 and at just 11 years old, young Reem Khamis made the journey from her native Egypt to escape the civil wars and totalitarian leadership of the then ruler Mubarak. The destination: Hamburg, Germany. Without any knowledge of German, but with a lot of ambition and great interest in karate, she joins the karate department of Harburger TB. The 11 years young Reem was integrated in the regional sports club and team. Only a few years later, Reem fights her way to the national top, in the discipline of karate, which will become Olympic for the first time in Tokyo in 2020. She becomes multiple national as well as German champion. While Reem is earning her German high school diploma at a Hamburg high school with an average grade of 1.4 in addition to her success in competitive sports, the phones are ringing off the hook at Harburger TB on a regular basis. The reason: Both the national youth coach and the national coach want to include Reem in the national team. But Reem does not yet have a German passport. She is not allowed to compete for Germany. After some bureaucratic effort and a lot of support from clubs and coaches, Reem is finally naturalized in 2021. This was long overdue, because not only does she shine at school with top grades, she also dominates the sport of karate in Germany.
Since the beginning of her karate career, the now 20-year-old young athlete has already become German champion 5 times. Meanwhile, Reem also has the following international successes to show:

2022 3rd place - U21 European Championship - (Prague, Czech Republic).
2022 2nd place - Series A (Kocaeli, Turkey)
2022 2nd place - U21 World Championship (Konya, Turkey)
2022 1st place - Series A (Jakarta, Indonesia)
2023 2nd place - U21 European Championship (Larnaca, Cyprus)
2023 3rd place - Premier League (Cairo, Egypt)

Reem, a top athlete currently studying mechanical engineering at HAW-Hamburg, has meanwhile managed to top the U21 world rankings. But that's not all: within the last six months, Reem has also moved up to 7th place in the women's world rankings. The goal is clear: World Champion.
Due to this rapid development of our small karate department, we would like to address you. We are aware of the fact that the social interest in a non-commercial sport like karate is certainly lower compared to the common sports. Nevertheless, both Sat.1 and ZDF have accompanied Reem and the Karate Team HTB in March 2023 over several days with the camera. We are very proud of coverage like this, because it is thanks to a lot of hard work. But behind every individual performance is also a whole team of responsible people. This includes not only the coaches, but also the teammates and supporters of the team. We would therefore like to proactively solicit support. After our first successes in Europe, our goal is now to travel to America and Asia. Since our ambitious athletes are all still pupils or students, we are therefore asking for sponsorship and financial support. For this purpose we have opened a donation account:

Harburger Turnerbund von 1865 e. V.
IBAN: DE89207500000000045435
BIC: NOLADE21HAM

The Karate Team HTB is looking forward to any form of support. Supporters and fans will be kept up to date on our homepage (www.karate-harburg.de) as well as Facebook and Instagram (Karate Team HTB; karateteamhtb).

Come join us on a long journey, we would be very happy.

Sincerely yours Karate Team HTB

PS: From 24 October 2023, the World Championships will take place in Budapest (Hungary), where our Reem Khamis will also compete again for Team Germany.
