Mission4Vision Mexico: VOSH

Donation protected

Hola,

I'm Leo. For those who don't know me, I'm a student of optometry who has a passion for service and I share a common goal in VOSH's mission - to provide adequate vision to the people in need; whether it be at home in Australia, or overseas. On the 16th of November, I'll be embarking on a volunteer mission to Ciudad Guzman in Mexico to combat vision loss, alongside 7 other students.

Over a 2 week course, our group of 8 will do our best to screen the local children, elderly and those unable to afford or access proper eye care. Things we take for granted, such as simple distance glasses, can make a huge difference in the quality of life for a child who is struggling to see the blackboard or unable to see properly on the playground. Detection of progressive or degeneration eye conditions can help preservation of sight remaining in the elderly or those predisposed - and can mean being able to read the newspaper or seeing their loved ones. These are just some of the things we can help achieve in Mexico.

One major thing we hope to achieve will be providing locals with much needed sunglasses. As you may already know, with Mexico being in the tropics, the high amounts of UV from sun exposure is a significant risk factor to loss of eyesight. Hence, our group has been negotiating 100 sunglasses to be supplied to the locals of Ciudad Guzman. A donation of $10 dollars is more than enough to cover for a pair of UV400 sunnies. On that note, any donation of any amount, big or small, is well appreciated. Even by visiting this GoFundMe means you're considerate of our cause, and that's awesome in itself.

There's a Spanish saying "Quien da luego, da dos veces", which means "who gives now, gives two times". Personally, I interpret this proverb two ways.

One, I've been given an opportunity to devote my time and effort to providing service for those people in need. I believe by doing so, my small contribution now can mean great positive change and energy to those people, who in turn may help spread the cause and assist others in need.

Two, to personally volunteer is great, but to be able to raise more support and awareness would be going that extra mile. Hence, I invite you to be involved, to contribute alongside me so we can create momentum for VOSH's mission.

I hope to achieve funding goals by the 16th of Nov, any additional funds raised beyond my goal will mean further resources that can benefit the locals of Ciudad Guzman. For those taking the time to read this, I sincerely thank you for your consideration and support. Please, feel free to share our venture with family or friends.

Muchas Gracias.
Leo Liu
