Getting To Ghana: WASH Volunteering

Donation protected
According to UNICEF, Ghana is the seventh-most unsanitary country in the world and the second most unsanitary in Africa. USAID found that that only a small minority of community members in Ghana’s Volta Region have access to improved sanitation facilities like household toilets. Only half can demonstrate proper hand washing techniques. Four out of five community members cannot demonstrate a solid understanding of the causes and prevention methods for water and sanitation-related diseases such as malaria, cholera, and typhoid fever.

That’s why we have decided to travel to the Volta Region of Ghana, Africa to volunteer with Cross Cultural Solutions’ WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) Program. We will be spending one week working in local communities to construct hand washing stations in under-served schools and implement educational workshops to help change students’ hygiene behavior by teaching basic sanitation practices.

We are excited to donate our time to this great program and cause, but are asking for your help in raising the funds to attend. Costs include program “tuition,” (used for lodging, transportation, food, program supplies, as well as cost of travel to Ghana (flights). Anything and everything helps!! Thank you so much for your support. Best, Sarah, Virginia and Andrea
