Voices United 2019

Sexual assault affects all of us, either directly or indirectly. If you have not been sexually assaulted, chances are, someone you know and love has. According to statistics gathered by RAINN, one in six women experiences attempted or completed rape in their lifetime, as does one in 33 men. The trans community is particularly vulnerable to sexual assault, with 21% of college aged trans individuals having experienced sexual assault, as compared with 18% of non-TGQN women and 4% non-TGQN men.  There are ways that you can help make our community safer, including supporting the services that provide aid to survivors following a sexual assault.

The Crisis Center provides 24 hour care for survivors of sexual assault, including counseling, legal and medical advocacy as well as evidence collection.

We have a memorandum of understanding with area hospitals that enables us to provide Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) services in a safe, confidential and private setting at the Crisis Center's SANE clinic. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners are specially trained nurses who use specialized technology and skills to collect evidence following a sexual assault. This evidence may be used to help convict perpetrators of sexual assault, making our community safer and healthier.

These services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, meaning that the Crisis Center always has a nurse on-call who is ready to provide these services as required by someone who has experienced a sexual assault. This one service costs approximately $800 per client, and sometimes exceeds that amount, depending on the client's need. The Crisis Center provides this service FREE OF CHARGE to each and every client that comes through our doors!!

Voices United was created to ensure the Crisis Center can continue to give the best possible care to our community's survivors at no expense to the client. The concert happens annually in April as a part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

This year's concert is at The Nick on Friday, April 5. If you can join us, please do! There will be bands, merchandise, food, and more ways to give so that you can help survivors of sexual assault in our community.
