My name is Marjolein and I live with my British partner Chris in Tanzania. With our ANBI * foundation Up4Africa and Do4Africa (volunteering in Tanzania) and Isoitok Tented Camp Manyara, we support various local community projects and families.
The Covid 19 virus is an unprecedented global emergency and has a devastating impact on the people of Tanzania.
For the amount of just over € 30 we can help 1 family with a food & hygiene package. With this package a family can eat for about 4 weeks.
In Arusha - the safari capital of Tanzania and the city where I live - many families are completely dependent on tourism. Because of all the measures, tourism is completely at a loss. In addition to daily food shortages, life in busy 'townships' with limited access to clean water and medical care ... besides caring for the virus, unemployment now also causes hunger!
For the amount of just over € 30 we can help 1 family with a food & hygiene package.
The emergency kit includes:
- Food package (rice, beans, cornmeal, salt, sugar, cooking oil)
- Hygiene kit (soap, sanitary napkin, disinfectant and detergent)
- African children's book about coronavirus "Aisha & Friends" provided free of charge by the Dutch Tanzania Foundation.
- With some community support, these families are already able to grow fruit and vegetables themselves.
We ultimately want to support 200 poor families for a period of 3 months. The costs for this are € 99 per family.
€ 33 = 1 family / 1 month
€ 66 = 1 family / 2 months
€ 99 = 1 family / 3 months
It looks like a drop on a glowing plate, but it does make sense to give these people a hand. There is no social safety net here as we know it in Western world. We buy the food and materials ourselves from local shops, prepare the emergency packages and take care of the distribution to the severely affected families.

Mijn naam is Marjolein en ik woon samen met mijn Britse partner Chris in Tanzania. Met onze ANBI* stichting Up4Africa en Do4Africa (vrijwilligerswerk in Tanzania) en Isoitok Tented Camp Manyara ondersteunen wij diverse lokale gemeenschapsprojecten en families.
Het Covid 19-virus is een ongekende wereldwijde noodsituatie en heeft een verwoestende impact op de bevolking in Tanzania.
Voor het bedrag van iets meer dan €30 kunnen we 1 gezin helpen met een voedsel & hygiëne pakket. Met dit pakket kan er voor ongeveer 4 weken gegeten worden.
In Arusha - de safari hoofdstad van Tanzania en de stad waar ik woon - zijn veel gezinnen volledig afhankelijk van toerisme. Door alle maatregelen ligt het toerisme volledig op zijn gat. Naast dagelijkse voedseltekorten, het leven in drukke ‘townships’ met beperkte toegang tot schoon water en medische zorg …naast de zorg voor het virus zorgt werkeloosheid nu óók nog voor honger!
Voor het bedrag van iets meer dan €30 kunnen we 1 gezin helpen met een voedsel & hygiëne pakket.
Het noodpakket bevat:
· Voedselpakket (rijst, bonen, maïsmeel, zout, suiker, bakolie)
· Hygiënekit (masker, zeep, maandverband, desinfectie middel en wasmiddel)
· Afrikaans kinderboek over coronavirus "Aisha & Friends" gratis ter beschikking gesteld door de Dutch Tanzania Foundation.
· Met wat steun van de gemeenschap zijn deze families al in staat om zelf groenten en fruit te verbouwen.
Wij willen uiteindelijk 200 arme gezinnen ondersteunen voor een periode van 3 maanden. De kosten hiervoor zijn €99,- per gezin.
€ 33,- = 1 familie/1 maand
€ 66,- = 1 familie/2 maanden
€ 99,- = 1 familie/3 maanden
Het lijkt een druppel op een gloeiende plaat, maar het is wel dégelijk zinvol om deze mensen een handje te helpen. Er is hier geen sociaal vangnet zoals we dat in Nederland kennen. Wij kopen zelf het voedsel en materialen bij lokale winkeltjes, prepareren de noodpakketten en verzorgen de distributie naar de zwaar getroffen families.
