Moving Out, and Moving Up!
Donation protected
Hi! We’re Romy, Hannah, and Sam, and we are three disabled roommates who work in the theater industry. At the beginning of the year, we received a notice to terminate our month -to-month lease by our property manager, as our complex has been systematically removing tenants they believe can't compete with their new luxury prices and don't fit their image. During our tenancy, our property manager has continuously caused issues for us seemingly simply due to our existence as disabled people on the property, so we had a feeling this was coming but didn't know when and have been living in an anxious and discriminatory state of limbo for roughly the past 8 months.
We received our notice to quit on January 3rd, and subsequently have to move out by February 28th. We have procured a newer and far nicer place and obviously have been preparing and saving to pay a deposit and rent there. When we asked our property manager if she’d prorate the rent, with advanced notice and according to all the rules in our lease as we plan to be out by February 14th, less than halfway through the shortest month of the year and far before our deadline, she refused! Now, we’re stuck paying a full month’s rent for somewhere we won’t even reside in while having to pay for the new house as well. We could pay for one or the other, but we can’t pay for both at once; Hence why we’re asking for help.
None of us have ever asked in this way before, and we know times are tough on everyone right now, so anything you can give would be very much appreciated! Your generous donations will be going towards rent, deposit, and any other moving costs we will incur. Thank you so much!
