Caring for Kevin

Anyone who knows Kevin Mason knows an intelligent, vibrant young man with a great sense of humor and a love for travel…what you may or may not know is that on April 27th, 2019, Kevin suffered a five story fall, fracturing five vertebrae and detaching his spine from half of his shattered pelvis. Today he endured a 10+ hour surgery to reconstruct his pelvis, reattach his spine and repair his C1, C7, L4, L5 and S1.

Kevin was one week from finishing medical school at the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine on May 4, 2019 and begin a residency near Raleigh, NC July 1.

The expectation for rehab is 6-9 months and Kevin has been forced to give up his residency spot this year while he recovers.

Unfortunately, he still needs to begin repaying his student loans - at bare minimum the interest, although he won't have any income.  He also will have exorbitant medical bills from physical therapy after he turns 26 in exactly 3 months and loses his health insurance.

Being such a lover of travel, Kevin was also looking forward to his dream trip...a month in Europe immediately after graduation with his best friend, which now has to be canceled and no option for recouping the majority of expenses already paid for either one of them.

We understand that not everyone is able to donate. At the very least, we ask you to please pray for Kevin, any and all of his medical team, his family, and the financial situations involved---THANK YOU!

We share this only to shed light...there is a great plan for Kevin's life.  Helping Kevin now will ultimately allow him to begin giving back to others as a doctor once he is able to slowly learn to walk again and enter into a medical residency next year.
