Unity Charter School-Brooklyn Wrestling

I'm looking to bring wrestling to a new charter school in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Coaching a middle school team in West Baltimore showed me what a profound effect wrestling can have on the perseverance of young men growing up in high-poverty areas. Wrestling can also provide a sense of community, a positive outlet for stress, and the structure necessary to keep kids busy.
This year we are looking to get enough mat space for 15 sixth graders to safely practice. $1,600 would get a new 20'x20' wrestling mat from AK Athletic Equipment. $525 would get us insurance for each wrestler ($35 a person through USA Wrestling.) Then the miscellaneous stuff (scale, mat cleaner, mat) would be another $100-150. I think $2,000--2,500 would be more than enough to get us started this year!
Please pledge soon as we have a large group of students excited about the idea of having wrestling!
